From my new book I will have a big buffet lined up, come for a late lunch and listen to a very interesting story told by Stéphane Kirkland. Napoleon III—France’s first president and last monarch—was elected by popular vote, and crowned himself emperor in 1851. During his 22-year reign, he transformed Paris from a dirty, congested and dangerous medieval city into the city we know today—one of grand boulevards, public squares and parks, and breathtaking architecture. Learn about this brilliant, deeply flawed man, his extraordinary plans and the food culture of the time, then enjoy a taste of 19th century Paris.

For Libelle’s XL issue #09, I cooked huge bowls of hot soup. As spring is nowhere to be found here in freezing Holland, we might as well have a comforting bowl of soup I thought. You can find the recipe for Pasta e Fagioli here (in Dutch), or you can click on the picture itself. The other two soups are Curry, Coconut & Carrot Soup and a Spicy Rutabaga Soup with Blue Cheese. Just to give you some ideas for a cold evening.
